Top performances by Sophie Blundell and Harvey Thomas at EAA Track and Field Championships in Cambridge

In the Eastern Athletics Association (EAA) Track & Field (T&F) Championships, on Saturday, June 29th at Wilberforce Road Athletics Track in Cambridge, two junior Newmarket Joggers put in impressive PB track performances. Sophie Blundell (aged 11) recorded a PB time of 2m:52s (previously 2:56.42) in the 800m event, while Harvey Thomas (age 13) edged his PB down from 5:06.4 to 5m:04s in the 1500m. They both achieved their highest age grades of the year at 76.50% and 76.12% respectively, including performances over all distances and events. Sophie also competed in the Long Jump and recorded 3.27m, with her PB remaining at 2.98m. The future looks bright for both these athletes.

Manchester Olympic T&F Trials, Saturday, June 29th: Newmarket Jogger George Wilkinson entered the 10km Race Walking trial and did well to finish 3rd in a time of 50:33.63. Any guesses who was first? It was his older brother and Newmarket local hero Callum Wilkinson, in a brilliant new UK record time of 38:43.91. Roll on the Olympics….

Friday 5 Series, Fixture 5, Haughley Park, Stowmarket, Friday evening June 28th: Nine Joggers took part in this event on a lovely summer evening. First home for the women was Helen Wass (43:55, 67th Female of 118, 3rd of 8 in F55), who was again in great form, followed by Angela Drury (45:20, 76th F, 15th in F40), Jan Holmes (51:40, 99th F, 7th in F60) and Caroline Mcintosh (55:01, 111th F, 3rd in F70+. For the men, Marc Drury (32:40, 49th of 341 overall, 4th of 24 in M50) put in his best time of the series so far, followed by Rob Pollard (38:21, 155th, 47th in MS), Liam Elvidge (38:49, 166th, 50th in MS), Jim Withers (50:38, 306th, 11th in M65) and Chris Aylmer (54:20, 327th, 6th in M70+). The 6th and final fixture of the series will be on Friday, 5th July at Great Bentley in Essex.

Race For Life 5K, Cambridge, Sunday June 30th: Sarah Last (~29:10) and Gillie Green  (~38:50) both enjoyed this event, which helped to raise valuable funds for breast cancer research.
