Top performances by Newmarket Joggers in TTP Cambridge Half Marathon

Forty-nine Newmarket Joggers were among over 14,000 participants of the TTP Cambridge Half Marathon on Sunday March 8th, which started and finished close to Midsummer Common. The weather was ideal; cool, with no rain and only a gentle wind, while the course was on closed roads and more or less level, with some relatively minor undulations on the loop to Grantchester and back. The attractive, meandering route, along cobbled streets in the city centre, included passing by or through the grounds of several Cambridge University colleges, while the streets were lined with enthusiastic spectators and supporters of all the participants.

First to finish for the Joggers was Neil Pollard (1:13:26 SB, 93rd of 14,099 overall, 5th of 793 in M45, 86.47% age grade), followed closely by Mark Hayward (1:14:21 SB, 115th, 13th of 928 in M40, 83.30%) and Oliver Daykin (1:15:25 PB, 150th, 35th of 1,142 in M25, 77.41%). These were all exceptional efforts.
.
First to finish for the female Joggers was Isabelle Talbot Price (1:21:28 PB, 25th F of 6,064, 6th of 1,200 in F25, 80.03%), who was in absolutely top form. Then came an unbelievable age group performance by Carol Cienna Carter (1:23:58 PB, 44th F, 2nd of 315 in F55, 93.91%), with a PB of about 6 minutes. She was so unlucky to be beaten in her age group by the current F55 world record holder Karima Harris (1:18:23), who just happened to be in the Elite start, achieving a staggering 101.89% age grade. There were, however, trophies for the top three in each age group. Next female Jogger to finish was new member Sally Hancock (1:29:12 PB, 104th F, 21st of 946 in F20, 73.09%), closely followed by Hannah Pollard (1:30:20 PB, 122nd F, 6th of 586 in F45, 77.68%), both with impressive performances and PBs.

On the same day, the Lisbon Half Marathon took place in Portugal, with a huge field of over 16,000 participants. This race had an exciting section, where it crossed over a long bridge spanning an estuary, with excellent views all round. Helen Hilario (1:43:16 PB, 3,278th of 16,177 overall, 429th F of 6,650, 21st of 584 in F50) was in great form and enjoyed the race.
