Abbreviations: pYB/RNYB = best parkrun or Run Newmarket time so far this year, 5kYB = best 5k time so far this year, cPB = parkrun course PB, pPB = all-time parkrun PB. AG% = Age Grade %.  Seeking an overall parkrun PB is not necessarily encouraged by parkrun, as every course is different and they probably don’t want people ignoring hilly routes and going to the quickest venues. However, it can be found on your parkrun personal profile.

Numbers to left of name in parkruns: overall position, gender position.

Newmarket Jogger and keen parkrunner Chris Aylmer has kindly offered to write this weekly report on how the Joggers have got on in these two events.

From 11th May 2024, PLEASE NOTE: Unless you are down as a Newmarket Jogger with parkrun and also a current member, your result might not appear on this page. The search facility on the app normally used seems to be blocked and it would take too long to check for those not registered with parkrun as a Newmarket Jogger. I think it might be due to parkrun privacy policy that now prevents someone being searched for results who is not registered as a club member; that’s reasonable.

If not shown in the official parkrun club results, there is no guarantee that the parkrun result will be picked up and added to achievement tables. If you are a current member, junior or senior, please make sure you are down as a Newmarket Jogger with parkrun and/or Run Newmarket, if you would like your result to show and/or to count in tables. The parkrun age group results are also no longer easily searchable, so just the times will show.

parkrun organises free, weekly (Saturday 9am), 5km timed runs in the UK and around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.

They are great for all abilities, from those just starting out to families of all ages, for the novice as well as the elite runner. Many Joggers regularly take part and volunteer, with local events being hosted in Soham Village College (Soham, 7.3 miles/16 min by car from Newmarket); Mildenhall Hub (Mildenhall, 9.8 miles/16 min), Coldham’s Common (Cambridge, 11.7 miles/18 min); Fulbourn Hospital (Fulbourn, 12.6 miles/19 min); Milton Country Park (Milton, Cambridge, 12.8 miles/21 min); Haverhill (Puddle Brook Fields, 15 miles/26 min); Storeys Field (Eddington, Cambridge, 16.1 miles/33 min); Bury St Edmunds (Nowton Park, 16.5 miles/23 min); Clare Castle (Clare Castle Country Park, 16.6 miles/31 min); Littleport (Littleport Leisure Centre, 18.9 miles/32 min); Brandon Country Park (Brandon, 19.4 miles/24 min); Thetford (Abbey Meadows, 19.7 miles/25 min); Wimpole Estate (Wimpole, 25.4 miles/36 min); Great Cornard (Cornard Leisure Centre, near Sudbury, 25.6 miles, 51 min); Chilton Fields (Stowmarket, 28.3 miles, 34 min); Huntingdon (Hinchingbrooke Park, 30.8 miles, 38 min); Pocket (St Neots, 31.7 miles, 39 min). Once registered you can enjoy them anywhere around the country, in fact around the world!  You are welcome to walk, jog or run these events according to your preference and level of fitness.

Run Newmarket replaced Great Run Local from 2020, when sponsorship was discontinued by the Great Run group. It is now sponsored by Cheveley Park Stud, Tattersalls and The Jockey Club Estates and is organised by a core group of loyal volunteers, including David Merchant, Anna Mayhew, Giles Macrow, James Plowman, Gaye Margarson, Sue Scargill, Helen Wass and Debbie Read, plus many other valuable, more occasional helpers. There’s accurately measured 5km and 2km runs every Sunday at 11:15 am, which are timed and published on Webscorer and Facebook. Many thanks to all the volunteers for their help and to our sponsors for allowing us to use their land.
