Newmarket Joggers organise two major races each year. These are open competitions: anybody can enter and no club membership or affiliation is needed, though athletes with an England Athletics affiliation benefit from reduced-price entry.
The Heath Race is a long established ‘Stable and Town’ race; originally held for people in the racing industry. It is now a popular fixture for early summer, promoted to a wide range of runners (club runners and non club runners) while still having a trophy for the stable teams. The route (by kind permission of The Jockey Club Estates) is a 5.4K off-road race on the training ground of Warren Hill in the centre of Newmarket. It is generally held on the first Thursday evening in May.
There is a junior race of approximately 1800m, again all off-road, for under-15s.
The Newmarket 10k is the Newmarket Joggers’ annual “blue riband” event with up to 300 senior runners taking part in the main road race, alongside a 3k trail race for juniors aged 10-14 and a children’s fun run for under-10s. It starts and finishes at the Ellesmere Centre in Stetchworth.
The race is held on a Sunday morning in late June or early July.
