More impressive results for Joggers in EMAC Track & Field League

Results have recently been posted on Power of 10 (thepowerof10.info) for the third fixture of the Eastern Masters Athletics Club (EMAC) Track & Field League, which took place on Wednesday, 1st July at King’s Lynn. This monthly league is for senior women and men aged 35+, in which Newmarket Joggers (NJ) join forces with Saint Edmund Pacers (SEP) of Bury St Edmunds. They are doing very well in the league this year; generally in the top 3 teams of around 7 or 8 in this regional league, with monthly venues shared between Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Peterborough and King’s Lynn. The team scoring system is rather complex; this report concentrates on individual performances.

In this fixture, the track focus was on 100m, 400m and One Mile distances, while the field events included High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put and Hammer Throw. A summary of the NJ individual results is shown below:

Note: the age grades for Newmarket Joggers have been derived from the Alan Jones Howard-Grubb 2015 table, which covers all ages from juniors upwards, for track & field, road running and race walking; not according to the official World Masters table, which is concerned solely with adults aged 35+. It is so useful to be able to compare our juniors, younger seniors (U35) and older seniors across all disciplines and types of running and walking. World Masters track & field age grades are likely to be significantly lower than those given below. There do exist updated Alan Jones Howard-Grubb tables for road running (2025, including juniors) and race walking (2020, including juniors), but none has been found for track & field. Since NJ juniors and U35s take part in the East Anglian T&F League, and also individually in other T&F open events and championships, we need to be able to include them in the age grading.

Phoenix Astro Dash, multi-lap running event, Thorpe Meadows, Peterborough, Sunday July 26th: Ian McClements (1:27:43) attended this event, organised by his favourite Phoenix Running group. He was representing his first claim Stevenage Striders and running with a friend from the club; they decided on the two-lap route for a leisurely quarter marathon run (6..55 miles) alongside the River Nene.
