Cross-Country Running

For the adults reading this, cross-country is far removed from the experiences you might have had at school. We always have a positive turnout at most races and an incredible team spirit.

Cross-Country (XC) races usually involve a marked course with marshals where you are racing off-road in a variety of conditions and terrain during the autumn/winter.

There are plenty of opportunities for our members to compete during the cross country season season and for a small club we have a proud and successful XC history.

The SOAR Suffolk Winter League (click link for detailed information on our webiste), a very popular Suffolk club league which the club have competed in for over 20 years. Recently the club have enjoyed great success in the league winning our first league title (men’s) for 9 years. There are end of year prizes for both team and individuals – race fees are inlcuded in membership for full members.

County championships for Suffolk and Cambridgeshire which are usually held in early January.  We have an understanding with Suffolk that, as a Suffolk club, our members can run in their championships as guests even if they would not otherwise be eligible by birth or residence. However any such guest runners will not be eligible for selection to the Inter-Counties team. Any Joggers who live in Cambridgeshire and are likely to perform at a qualifying standard are strongly advised to enter the Cambridgeshire championships not the Suffolk one.

These Championships include both team and individual county medals in junior categories all the way up to 70+ (2020 saw the men win the county title for the first time!)

Eastern Athletics championships, usually around November each year – this sees the 7 counties in the Eastern region take part racing for team and individual prizes (also usually incorporating the EMAC XC Championships) Newmarket Joggers usually send a good few members and 2024 saw the mens team take home the championship title (the first time in 20 years)

County / School Selection Races – Members can be selected to run for their county or for schools if they are running well in the relevant competitions above. Recent years has seen members gain county vests representing Suffolk at the CAU Inter-County Championships and some of the juniors representing Suffolk and Cambridgeshire Schools at the English Schools Association Championships

Full members also have the chance to enter other XC races such as The National Cross Country Championships or Southern Cross Country Championships, you can find information about these races on the South of England Athletic Association website.
