Let It Stow, Let It Stow, Let It Stow!

Sunday, 18th December: ‘Let It Stow’ is a catchily named half marathon trail race, held about a week before Christmas in the countryside surrounding Stowmarket, Suffolk; a scenic route along footpaths and through woods. Participants are encouraged to wear colourful, festive dress, with a prize for the best outfit. This year the weather was ideal for the race, being cold (~0°C), calm and dry, with a seasonal layer of icy snow over the open trails and fields. The runners could count themselves lucky, as later in the day the weather turned really nasty, with icy rain and a strong, blustery wind.

Chris Underwood (1:36:11) put in a very good effort, finishing 15th of 208 runners overall. His best time this year was 1:32:17 in the Cambridge Half last March, though obviously not comparable in terms of terrain. Chris Aylmer (2:31:51) enjoyed a steadier run, finishing 164th and relieved to complete the course without a tumble.
