Mark Hayward, who already has a haul of PBs to his name this year, was bang in form again in the Dereham 10 mile race in Norfolk on Sunday May 15th. He finished 2nd of 398 runners overall in a time of 55:48, taking 25 seconds off his previous PB in the Tarpley 10 in February. Paul Holley (1:03:14, 39th, 3rd of 25 in M55) also had a great run, despite being hampered by a quad injury from early on in the race.

Meanwhile, down in Essex, Shane Basing had a crack at the Colchester Zoo Stampede 10K, while his family explored the zoo. In this huge event of 1,689 participants, Shane clocked 41:42 and finished an impressive 23rd overall on chip time, 1st of 83 in M40, taking over 2 minutes off his previous PB at Milton Keynes last year.

Also on Sunday, Lisa Jennings (2:32:31) did well in the Suffolk Running Centre’s ‘Golding Hills’ Half Marathon in Barrow, which followed a double out & back route along the undulating and attractive countryside lanes. Her best effort this year remains 2:24:21 at the same venue.
On Saturday evening, 14th May, Jimmy Smith (16:48, 32nd of 368 overall, 5th of 33 in M40) and Nicole Smith (26:40, 62nd F of 142, 5th of 15 in F50) took part in the Ipswich Twilight 5K event, which took a scenic route along the quayside, in glorious sunshine most of the way. They both posted their best 5km times this year, so well worth the trip.
