Holley shines in Dubai 10K while Clarke excels in Freethorpe Ten

Over in Dubai on Friday 25th Jan, top veteran Newmarket Jogger Paul Holley (MV50) put in a superb performance in the Standard Chartered Dubai 10K, finishing 20th overall and 2nd in his age group in a time of 35:54. This was his first race of 2019 and earned him an age grade of 85.1%, sending him straight to the top of the Joggers’ men’s club standards table. This prestigious race meeting also included elite marathons for men and women, won in 2:03:34 and 2:17:08 respectively, close to the world records.

On Sunday, Neville Clarke was in top form in the Freethorpe Ten (10m) in Norfolk, where he clocked 1:13:31 to finish 2nd of 12 in his MV65 age category. This gave him an age grade of 76.88% and puts him in second place in the men’s club standards table. He was unlucky to come head to head in the same age group with Stephen Mead (1:09:46) of Stowmarket Striders, who was ranked 11th MV65 in the UK by Runbritain over 10 miles in 2018 and stands top so far this year, with Neville in third.  Also running in the Freethorpe Ten were Newmarket Joggers Clive Purbrook (1:23:28) and Belinda Schofield (1:35:53), both performing well in their respective MV60/FV60 age groups.

In Irchester Jurassic Park near Wellingborough, Adam Maltpress tackled the 15K Dirt Run and finished in 1:10:54, 21st of 84 runners overall. He continues in his quest to run 40 races and collect 40 medals while aged 40, from October 2018 to 2019. So far he is well ahead of schedule.
