The Stowmarket Scenic 7 attracted 432 runners on Sunday, including four Newmarket Joggers. This popular race over seven miles is always held on Remembrance Day, starting at the Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre. After earlier rain, it turned into a beautiful day and a truly scenic run, with the sun lighting up the colours of the autumn leaves. Adam Maltpress was first home for the Joggers in a time of 52:00, followed by Brian Munns (52:33), Jim Withers (1:00:59) and Chris Aylmer (1:04:59). At 11:00am, before the presentations in the sports hall, two minutes silence was held in honour of those who gave their lives.
Adam Maltpress is beginning to tick off the races towards his target of 40, from his 40th birthday last month to his 41st birthday in October 2019. We make it 5 races so far but let us know if that isn’t right.
Up at Wisbech, Clive Purbrook competed in the George Munday 10K and clocked 49:37, coming 3rd of 13 in his MV60 age group in a total field of 259 runners. This was close to his best 10K time this year.
Congratulations to Ruth Eberhardt and Jeremy Reader on winning places in the club draw for the Virgin London Marathon 28th April 2019. They will join Giles Macrow, who was successful in the original VLM ballot, plus maybe some others, including those running for charities or who qualify on “good for age” times.
