4th March 2018

Incredibly the 2018 Cambridge Half Marathon took place on Sunday 4th March. It was touch and go all week due to the snow, but despite the cold temperatures over 8000 runners turned out to pound the streets of Cambridge. Over 60 Newmarket Joggers were amongst these with , all crossing the line in good form at the end of the 13.1 mile run.
Paul Holley was the first Newmarket Jogger home in just 1.15.55, putting him in a pretty impressive 30th overall position. Not far behind was Neil Pollard, 1.16.42 who came in 38th overall position. Daisy Glover, 1.21.47 was the 5th female over the line.
For many of the joggers running this distance is a huge achievement and making it over the finish line is incredible, but several of the joggers gained personal bests…..Erica Garlicki-Burger – 2.00.38, Adam Maltpress – 1.39.22 ( a pb of over 3 mins), Chris Gay – 1.19.06, Rebecca Oettle – 1.41.04 ( a pb of 12 mins), and both Sarah Sales – 1.57.16 and Amy baker took over 15 mins of their previous times.
Emma Townsend – 2.44.19 completed the run just 14 weeks after giving birth to her first child and many of the 2017 beginners group ran this one for the first time, including Choldie Rolph – 2.26.41 and Jan Holmes – 2.14.07.
There are unfortunately too many to name them all but others with particularly pleasing runs were, Ellie Bithell 1.49.04, Iain Patrick – 2.05.22, Sam Sadler – 1.28.29, Malcolm Osbourn – 2.01.32, and Nicky Chapman – 1.34.22.
A couple of the joggers travelled a little further and joined Mo Farrah completing the London Big Half. Caroline McIntosh and Lisa Winnington represented the club across the finish line here.
