A fresh chilly day provided a solid running ground for the Suffolk Cross Country Championships. Hosted in and around the beautiful grounds of Culford School in Bury st Edmunds, the Newmarket joggers pulled off a fantastic start to the new years running.
The cross country course was 8K for women and 12K for men. Mark Hayward was first overall Newmarket Jogger to cross the finish line in 45.42. First female jogger across the line was Nicky Chapman. On the back of an illness Nicky did a great run in just 36.54.
Award winners were, Belinda Schofield who was 3rd in her age category (V60, 45.53), Neville Clarke who was 2nd in his age category (V60, 57.27) and Greg Davis who was 1st in his age category. ( V55, 50.21) .
Some of the other runners who put in a fantastic run for the club were, Jan Holmes (47.38) This was Jan’s first cross country race since she joined the beginners group in 2017, so a great time for her. Pearl Fay, Gillian Green, Chris Gay, Clive Purbrook, Tony Garth, Brian Munns, Jim withers, Chris Aylmer, Alan Shand, Rebecca Oettle, Paul Dockerill and Svetlana Zinchenco also crossed the finish line in great form.
