Amazing weather added to the amazing weekend for the Joggers. 24 joggers took part in the Ekiden relay held at Woodbridge in Suffolk on Sunday 17th July. This marathon distance 26.2 mile race is completed by teams of 6 members to be run in a relay consisting of 1 x 7.2Km, 3 x 5km legs and 2 x 10k legs. There were 178 teams running in total, making 1068 runners. Newmarket Joggers had 4 teams running, 24 runners taking part.
The men’s veterans team who came 2nd in their category by narrowly missing 1st place with there time of 2.39.08. The team consisted of Greg Davis, Simon Harris, Robin Clifford, Paul Francis, Taffy Williams and Alex Cairns. The ladies Veterans really felt the heat today but still came in with a superb time of 3.29.34, making them 6th in their category. The team consisted of Lisa Redman-Long, Zvetlana Zinchenko, Ruth Edberhardt, Sandra Jaina, Nicky Chapman and Helen Wass. The mixed team consisting of Robert Jaina, Isabel Vincente, Jim Withers, Emma Townsend, Jeremy Reader and Hannah Pollard completed in a very respectable 3.47.26. The mens open finished 12th in their category with the time of 2.49.06. This team was made up from Kevin Connolly, Justin Long, Sam Sadler, Steve Edwards, Neil Pollard and Neville Clarke.
