The sun shone on a massive 302 runners competing in the latest of the Kevin Henry series which the joggers hosted at home in Newmarket. 58 of that number were runners from the Newmarket Club. This race saw 6 of their men finishing in the top 20 and many PB’s from the runners. This keeps the club sitting in 3rd position still at half way through the series.
Several of these runners obviously felt they had not run far enough as they went on to compete in the next of the Friday 5 series at Stowmarket on Friday evening. Neville Clarke, Neil Williamson, Brian Munns, Jim Withers, Helen Wass and Chris Aylmer all bought it good times for the club.
To finish the weekend those that still hadn’t done enough then went on to compete in the Soham, East Anglia Half marathon and the Flaming June half marathon in Histon. Neil Pollard came 4th in the Histon half with his time of 1.20.29, closely followed by Sam Sadler with 1.26. Over in Soham several of the joggers took part, with Denys Olefir wining the race with his amazing time of 1.15. Chris Gay came in 4th, Martyn Taylor, 5th with 1.25.30 and Alex Cairns 10th with 1.27.22. Grianne Brennan came through for the ladies being 2nd woman home. Many other runners had an amazing run. Svetlana Zinchenko completed her debut marathon in just 2.03 and Jo Curtis and David Blackstock took 3 mins of their previous PB with a finishing time of 2.12. The team award was given to the joggers this year.
