Woodbridge Shufflers traditionally host the 2nd of five Suffolk County League cross country fixtures and it has become very popular with the Newmarket Joggers. A slight change to the course layout,met with approval, but was Still very challenging and strong winds combined with a sandy surface to make it a thorough test of endurance. The runners were given great support from a strong backup team from the club.
Newmarket combine with Sudbury Joggers to form a team and Sudbury are really turning in some great performances.
The Newmarket section were led home by veteran Greg Davis in 33rd place. Chris Gay is running well and followed up in 43rd place. The evergreen V60 category Neville Clarke did not disappoint in 112th. Elite marathoner Phil Green turned back the years and came home in 116th. Steve Edwards is experienced on this surface and showed prowess in 128th. Jon Brooker is making progress from a knee injury and performed well in 138th. Club Captain Brian Munns was next in 145th. Clive Purbrook appears to be peaking for the Suffolk County Championship in January,and came home strongly in 159th. Aaron Denis ran a cracker in 192nd with Neil Williamson in 236th. Jim Withers never runs a bad race and is ever present, and came home in 282nd. Chris Aylmer finished in 310th with keith Page in 332nd.
The ladies section are threatening big things come the prize giving evening. Strength In depth is now a reality. Grainne Neary was superb once more and came home in 6th. Nicky Chapman has had a virus of late ,but has rested well and is now approaching top form, building for future success over all distances, and finished 99th. Grainne Brennan is also enhancing her reputation as a top class runner,and finished a highly credible 114th. Lisa Redman took heart from a great run in 229th with Helen Wass improving constantly in 231st. Lana Zinchenko loves this format and showed it with a 237th place. Belinda Scofield will also be targeting the County Championships, and warmed up with 261st place. Alice Leadbeter came home in 295th with Isabel Vicente in 308th. Jane Smith showed great spirit to finish strongly in 316th and Jackie Henley in 323rd. Gillie Green finished in 324th with Jenny Osbourn in 328th.
