When Newmarket Jogger Clive Purbrook opened his birthday present he could hardly imagine that it would involve running a marathon while drinking fine cuisine and drinking red wine. The Marathon du Medoc is a unique event over the classic distance in the stunning Medoc region of Bordeaux. The carnival atmosphere is embraced by all the runners and they can enjoy the delicious produce in the view of the Chateaux.
Not wishing to appear ungrateful Clive, along with his partner Belinda Schofield and children Barney and Ruth Purbrook, slipped in to the compulsory fancy dress( sheep costumes) and paced themselves magnificently throughout the “race” to allow them to partake of fine wine, pate, oysters, steak and ice cream, along with a token sports drink for good measure. They completed in team fashion in a joint time of 5 hours 48 minutes.
