NJ Round Up – 27th October

Great South Run 10 Road Race. Portsmouth &Southsea

Wherever there is an elite road race in Europe it seems there is a Newmarket Jogger to be found, and so it proved with the Great South Run. The much travelled Dave Price, in spite of a stitch, finished in 1.33.49. A flat course it may be, but the last 2 miles was in to a stiff breeze to add some teeth to the mild temperature.

Suffolk Cross Country League-Framlingham Castle.

The scenic, historic Framlingham Castle is the traditional curtain raiser for the Suffolk Cross Country League. The Newmarket Joggers we well represented in both male and female ranks. Alex Cairns is in top form and led the line well to finish in 40th place overall. Jason Beeton is coming back to his best after a patient rehab from injury and Joggers rookie Crispin Lewis looks promising and will build toward his Spring marathon programme.Charles shoolbred and Clive Purbrook added substance to the midfield and gained valuable points and were supported by Marcus Gynn, Brian Munns, Jim Withers and Malcolm Osbourn.

In the female ranks, Nicky Chapman looks like starting the Winter season where she left off from the road and led in the girls home in style from Kate Ferrin. Belinda Schofield just gets better and was supported by new Ladies Captain and Vice Captain Kate Warboys and Helen Wass. Winter rules regulars Isabel Vincente and Lisa Jennings were joined by new member Jenny Osbourn who also performed with credit.

Leicester Marathon

Joe Richer produced a fine run in the Leicester Marathon. 3.40.01. was terrific from the former Iron Man performer.
