NJ Round Up – 7th April

Marcus Hall, competing in his first marathon led Newmarket Joggers home on Sunday in the Brighton Marathon in a fantastic debut time of 3:25:36, closely followed by the first lady for the club Nicky Chapman who triumphantly recorded a personal best by 23 minutes to add to her string of 2014 PB’s this year over various distances, including as recently as Tuesday where she recorded a 5k PB of 20:33, Nicky crossed the line in 3:33:51 totally smashing her previous time in the same marathon last year, she was 100th woman to cross the line and 46th overall in her age group. Next over the line was another lady who also recorded a PB as Lisa Redman finished in 3:51:35 just ahead of fiancé Justin Long in 3:53:01. Sadly Kevin Connolly had to pull out the race at 16 miles due to a shin injury. Nicky, Lisa, Justin and Kevin will now go on to run the Edinburgh Marathon in a few weeks time.

Dave Price was the only Jogger to head to Paris on Sunday to contest the Paris Marathon, he was on for a PB until 21 miles when he hit the wall badly but bravely hung on to finish in 5:10 before having to dash to catch the Eurostar home.

Chris Gay was another Jogger running a marathon at the weekend and he chose Manchester as his first marathon challenge. He was going well until just before the halfway point where everything started to go wrong and battled on gamely despite failing legs and an upset stomach to finish in a time of 3:24:51

The Cambourne 10k had 940 runners on Sunday with 5 Newmarket Joggers lining up for the tough and competitive race. Simon Harris was first Jogger over the line in 40:48 and 36th overall, next was first lady for the club and 3rd lady overall Ursula Ransom in a time of 42:20 which also saw her receive the trophy for 1st Female v35. Next was Ian Jackson in 46:23, Clive Purbrook 49:34 and Belinda Schofield 55:33 making up the remaining team.

Oliver Wordsworth-Clarke who is only 8 years old ran in the Wimpole Parkrun on Saturday, this is a tough 5k with hills, undulations and mixed terrain however the Junior Jogger didn’t let any of this phase him as he crossed the line in 26 minutes 31 seconds a fantastic time and one that would have many of the Senior Joggers struggling to keep up with!
