NJ Round Up – 4th March

The final fixture of the 2013/2014 Suffolk County Cross League was held on Sunday at Nowton Park in Bury, after 5 fixtures the Joggers finished 5th overall combined, men’s and ladies teams out of 25 teams in total. There were overall league awards for 1st Female v35 went to Ursula Ransom, 1st Female v55 went to Belinda Schofield and 1st Mv50 went to Greg Davis.

On the day there were Seniors and Juniors competing and first home again for the men’s team was Martyn Taylor in 33:23 and 13th overall, next was Greg Davis in 34:10 (20th), Gabe Lowrie 34:26 (21st), Steve Edwards 35:32 (31st), Ursula Ransom 37:23 (57th), Neville Clarke 38:47 (76th), Nicky Chapman 40:11 (101st), Marcus Gynn 42:20 (125th), Charles Shoolbred 42:39 (130th), Manuel Marchi 44:47 (151st), Clive Purbrook 45:33 (160th), Belinda Schofield 47:44 (184th), Mike Sales 47:50 (185th), Marjie Davis 53:27 (210th), Isabel Vincente 58:44 (220th).

In the Juniors Jamie Sales yet again led the boys home in a terrific time of 14:59, he was 5th overall out of 70 runners and 1st boy u13, this fantastic performance also saw him awarded 2nd Boy u13 for the League also running for the Juniors was Robert Anderson who was 31st overall in 16:44.

The Bury fixture also hosted an Under 11 race and there was a large turnout for this race, however results are not yet finalised but competing for the Junior Joggers were Ruby Davis (age 10) , Luna Thomas (age 6), Emily Knibbs (age 9), Charlie Payne (age 6), Austin Taylor (age 7) William Taylor (age 9), Harry O’Shea who finished 3rd overall (age 10). Also Harry Kelly age 9 showed great team support as due to his driver failing to get him to the race in time he overcame his bitter disappointment at not being able to run to help with the timekeeping for the under 11 race.

Also running on Sunday in preparation for forthcoming marathons in the Wymondham 20mile race was Nik Chapman who finished in 2:40:47 taking a massive chunk from his PB and finishing in 101st position overall, also using it as a training run was Dave Price who completed in 3:45:31 253rd overall out of 267 finishers.
