SCAA Cross Country League

The SCAA Cross Country League reached its penultimate fixture of the 2013/2014 season at a new venue of Heveningham Hall near Bungay, due to the recent heavy rain the conditions were treacherous at times and very demanding upon the runners who were treated to extreme XC conditions underfoot.  Both the Senior and Junior contingents of the club were represented and leading the way for the Juniors was Jamie Sales who finished 6th overall (out of 59 competitors) in a time of 12:43, this saw him as 2nd Boy under 13 only 8 seconds behind his rival and he was only over a minute behind the overall winner who was in the under 17 age category. Jamie has lit up the Cross Country League this year for the Juniors and now looks forward to heading to the Nationals next month. Also competing for Newmarket Joggers was Charlie Davis who was the only girl competing for the club and did the girls proud finishing in 20:12. The Boys team are 7th out of 19 clubs and the girls 11th out of 15 clubs.

The Seniors were represented by 14 Joggers with first over the line Martyn Taylor in 35:35, 14th overall. This is the 3rd time this season that Martyn has led the Joggers home and it was even more impressive on Sunday as he finished with only one shoe, his other was left some way behind in the mud!  Next was Greg Davis in 36:02 17th overall and 1st male vet 50, Steve Edwards put in another great performance this season finishing in 37:33 (24th), Ursula Ransom was next in 49th overall and first lady for the club as well as 4th lady overall in a time of 40:11. Neville Clarke 42:28 (75th), Kevin Connolly 42:48 (81st) second lady for the club was Nicky Chapman who put in a great run to finish in 43:14 (85th overall and 12th lady), Charles Shoolbred 47:54 (120th), Manuel Marchi made his debut for the team in 50:09 (147th overall), Belinda Schofield was 1st lady vet 55 in 52:49 (162nd), Mike Sales 53:54 (169th), Clive Purbrook 55:42 (174th), Marjie Davis 56:56 (180th), Sarah Sales 67:24 (198th).
