Jason Beeton has had an incredible year having competed in all distances ranging from 5k to the marathon and is a regular team scorer in the XC and 5k leagues for the club, this year he has excelled throughout smashing his previous PB’s over all distances and terrains and on Sunday yet again put in an amazing performance in the Hadleigh 10 which is an undulating 10 mile race. Embracing the hills and taking the benefit of the descents he obliterated his previous PB for the distance as he took 6 minutes from it finishing 25th overall in 1:05:16.
2 Newmarket Joggers travelled to Norwich on Sunday to contest the Norwich Half Marathon and first over the line for the club was Adrian Whittle in 1:44:29 whilst making his debut for the club was Paul Dockerill who finished in 1:48:47.
Charlie Payne competed in the St Neots Fun Run over 3k for Newmarket Joggers Juniors, the 6 year old was competing for the first time on his own in a field of 65 youngsters and he put in a tremendous performance finishing in 16:40 and 4th overall in the under 9 age category, a bright prospect for the future and already showing signs of following in his parents – Karen and Neil’s footsteps as they are both talented athletes themselves.
On Saturday Peter Elsdon-Dean (age 14) and Rhys Turnbull-Bester (age 13) represented Newmarket Junior Joggers in the under 15’s Sportshall Event in Ipswich. They both participated in all the events which consisted of shot putt, vertical jump, standing long and triple jump, speed bounce, 2 & 4 lap races and the 1 lap relay. Rhys is new to Sportshall competitions but this did not deter his determination as he excelled in all disciplines along with team mate Peter. All the events were qualifiers for the County where we’re hopeful that they will be in contention to compete in the Regional Sportshall Finals in the New Year.
